Space Guru

So this year (for the first time since 2011) I entered E4's Estings competition.

The competition closes on the 3rd September. Wish me luck...

Rocket Dude

I recently submitted an entry to The Guardian's Witness Assignment contest; making a film about superheroes which is 60 seconds or less. It was a tight deadline and I had to rush the visual effects a bit but fortunately I had a dedicated gang of volunteers on hand to make sure it got completed by the deadline.

Watch the finished movie here:

Judging of the winning film takes place some time later this week (fingers crossed)

Please note this video isn't a comprehensive how-to guide for circuit bending; it's more of a vague overview of what to expect. I've intentionally left some details out because half the fun of circuit bending is to research/discover the specific 'bends' for yourself but this might (or might not) set you off in the right direction.

Whine Meal episode 6

So finally, here’s Whine Meal 6.

Click here to watch it on my website

You can of course also watch it on Newgrounds and on Youtube

Notes about this episode:

• Originally scheduled for Christmas 2010, this cartoon was held up once by burglars stealing my computer and then again by an infant-related laptop breakage in 2011.
• Further to the incidents above – and on a considerably more tragic note – my friend Laura ‘Ruby’ had for a long time wanted to do a voice cameo on one of my cartoons. She played a ‘walk-on’ part in this episode but died earlier this year without seeing it completed. The episode is dedicated to her memory.
• This is likely to be the final episode of Whine Meal. I made episode 1 four years ago and I’m delighted that it’s continued for six episodes (or seven if you count the 2010 April Fool’s joke) but much has changed in those four years; not only in my personal life but also in the wider world. Due to pressure from Apple and the rapid encroachment of HTML5, Flash is a dying format and therefore animations of this kind are dwindling in popularity. I’m not planning to jump ship entirely – at least not yet – but I feel my time could be better spent now expanding into other animation techniques, particularly 3D ones. Itchimus and Lionel might return, but then again they might not. I really can’t say!
• *spoiler alert!*The version I uploaded to Newgrounds has been slightly re-edited; this is in response to the recent school shootings in Connecticut. Newgrounds is a primarily American website and I didn’t want viewers to think the final scene of my cartoon might be poking fun at a real-life incident. The original edit can be seen on Youtube or my website.

Watch it on Newgrounds

• Clearly this is not the 'Christmas Special' episode which I've been promising for the last year and a half. Don't ask.

• Features rather blatant advertising for Non-Bio.

• While I was uploading this to Youtube, it asked me if I want to submit this to some sort of competition that Ridley Scott is involved with (he seems to be in a lot of these). I did so.

• Please note that one of my earlier films (Are Your Relaxed?) will be screened on the 5th April in Brick Lane, London and I have to stand up and give a talk about it and stuff. It's free entry if you want to come and there will be dozens of other short films to enjoy. Details here.
